Two of the most influential and ground-breaking artists of the 1970s – Steve Miller Band with special guest Peter Frampton – will perform at DTE Energy Music Theatre as part of Doug Fest 2010 on Friday, July 2 at 7 p.m.

One of rock music’s all time greats, the Steve Miller Band has sold more than 30 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. Miller’s trademark blues-rock sound made him one of the key artists in classic rock radio. His band plays sold out shows every year across the country. The Steve Miller Band is brand name rock millions have come to trust.
The Gangster is back. Miller, the man some people call Maurice, will release his first new recordings in 17 years, Bingo!, in June. Co-produced by Miller and engineer Andy Johns (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin), Bingo is the first album from sessions Miller conducted in March 2008 at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch in the woods of Marin County. A second album will be released next year from the sessions, which introduced new Steve Miller Band member Sonny Charles, veteran rhythm and blues vocalist of the Checkmates. These were also the final sessions by harmonica player and vocalist Norton Buffalo, Miller’s “partner in harmony” for 33 years, who died of cancer in October 2009.
Bingo echoes Miller’s days as an apprentice on the Chicago blues scene in 1964-66, where his Goldberg-Miller Blues Band worked the same territory as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the Siegel-Schwall Band. The fully realized work of a master craftsman, in a sense, Bingo is an album Steve Miller has been waiting all his life to make.
Miller will also appear in a special concert with guest country music superstar Kenny Chesney this summer on Country Music Television’s popular series, Crossroads, filmed live this spring at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Ole Opry.
Peter Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. Raised in London, Frampton taught himself to play guitar while still in single digits. He studied at the Bromley Technical School with classmate David Bowie (with whom he later recorded and toured). At 16, he was lead singer and guitarist for British teen band, the Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive!, is one of the top selling live records of all time. Frampton is so identified as the quintessential rocker, that he served as a consultant on Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, Crowe’s semi-autobiographical film about a teenage journalist covering the fictional rock band Stillwater.
Frampton hits include such classic rock staples as “Show Me The Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do.”
Frampton, who recently won a Grammy Award for his instrumental album Fingerprints, will be performing material from his forthcoming release Thank You Mr Churchill. Frampton’s band will include Rob Arthur (keyboards, guitar and backing vocals) and John Regan (bass), as well as Adam Lester (guitar) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums).
